Manufacturing: working for our clients through energy performance contracts

Keeping consumption under control and improving energy performance represent major challenges in the industrial world, both from an environmental and a competitiveness point of view. In France, the manufacturing sector accounts for a quarter of final energy consumption and a third of electricity consumption, resulting in significant greenhouse gas emissions, high energy dependence and substantial costs.

CEF Industrie Nord-Pas-De-Calais, a VINCI Energies business unit that specialises in the design, installation and maintenance of facilities in the field of indoor environmental engineering and refrigeration at temperatures ranging from -70°C to +110°C, has refurbished the heating and refrigeration facilities at Boncolac’s pre-prepared food processing plant.

Under a 5-year energy performance contract, CEF is responsible for installing, maintaining and optimising the plant’s refrigeration facilities, thereby reducing its environmental impact. In order to meet its contractual commitment of delivering energy savings of 20%, CEF implemented a range of solutions aimed at helping the client to bring its energy consumption under control:

  • Recovering waste heat from the refrigeration process to heat domestic hot water and waste water;
  • Installing variable speed drives on pumps;
  • Rolling out flowmeters, temperature probes and pressure sensors;
  • Developing an energy consumption monitoring application.

This long-term partnership helps Boncolac manage its energy consumption, reduce its environmental impact and reaffirm its ongoing commitment to protecting the environment.
